Paramedics earn certificates from LCCC

NANTICOKE — Thomas Lewis, of Jackson Township, and Elizabeth Zakarauskas, of Dallas, earned certificates of completion from Luzerne County Community Colleg’s paramedic program.

Each graduate completed the classroom, clinical, and field requirements for the program. Upon successful completion of the course requirements, the graduates are eligible to take the National Registry Paramedic Examinations.

MU researcher to make presentation

DALLAS TWP. — Denis Anson, the director of research and development for the Assistive Technology Research Institute at Misericordia University, will make two presentations at the 2017 Alabama Assistive Technology Expo & Conference in October.

Anson will discuss “Making Accommodations Universal: The Global Public Inclusive Infrastructure and Shopping and Alerting Aid,’’ demonstrate how the technology can open computers, mobile devices and the internet up to users of all abilities and ages.

Anson’s second presentation, “The Developer Space: Making the World a Better Place, One Person at a Time,’’ showcases the GPII Developer Space that provides tools and support for professionals plus others working to develop assistive approaches to information access.

MU students to present research

DALLAS TWP. — Misericordia University students Amber Kelley, Dallas, and Briana Scorey, Wilkes-Barre, are selected to present research posters at the 2017 Pennsylvania History Association annual meeting in Scranton in October.

Kelley will present, “American Lithuanian Immigrants’ Response to Soviet Union’s Attack on Their Cultural Identity,” which focuses on Lithuanian immigrants to the anthracite region of Northeast Pennsylvania and changes to their historically strong cultural identity that took place in response to events happening in their home country under Soviet Union control.

Scorey’s presentation called “Shipboard Orientation: A Voyage in International Understanding,” focuses on a 1947 voyage of American students who crossed the Atlantic Ocean on two converted warships to fosters cooperation and compassion during the Cold War era.
