DALLAS — At Wednesday’s meeting, the council voted to purchase new bulletproof vests for the borough’s four full-time police officers.

The borough will be reimbursed for half of the cost of the vests, up to $1,796, through a Bulletproof Vest Partnership award, which is administered through the Department of Justice. New vests are purchased every five years, said borough manager Tracey Carr.

Council also voted to install additional street and pedestrian lighting in the proposed round-a-bout area in conjunction with the state Department of Transportation’s work. This part of Phase II of the borough’s Downtown Improvements Project is being funded by a $250,000 Department of Community and Economic Development Local Share Grant.

The council also:

• Acknowledged receipt of General Municipal Pension System Aid for 2015 in the amount of $43,129 and authorized distribution to the borough’s uniformed and non-uniformed pension funds.

• Approved the intergovernmental joint purchase of a new truck-mounted leaf collection unit from Stevenson Equipment Inc. and also a new pipe-cleaning truck from A & H Equipment. The units will be shared by certain members of the Back Mountain Community Partnership.

• Voted to donate $18,094 to the Dr. Henry M. Laing Fire Company Relief Association.

Carr announced that the borough’s Fall Leaf Collection Program will begin the week of Nov. 2. The council’s next work session will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 16. The regular meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 18.
