News and Notices

Our volunteers are brimming with enthusiasm as they make plans for our annual auction. This year’s dates are July 5, 6, 7, and 8. Please keep us in mind as you do your spring cleaning. Our committees are especially asking for donations of antiques and jewelry. Here’s the chance to clear out unwanted items and benefit the library at the same time.

The Friends of the Library are again holding their spring geranium sale. Darling’s Farms and Greenhouses on Hildebrandt Road in Dallas Township provides the lovely and thriving flowers. Buy now and pick up your plants with your receipt at the farm between May 1 and 31. Single pots are $4, or you can buy three for $10. You have your choice of colors when you pick up. Stop in at the front desk to purchase and please note this sale benefits the library.

If you have a little extra time, a willingness to help and would enjoy being in a busy and positive environment, volunteer in the Children’s Room. Jobs like book washing, toy sanitizing and shelf reading keep the Children’s Room looking bright and can be fit into your individual schedule.

The Luzerne County Library System has instituted a county-wide limit of five DVDs or Blu-rays per library card. This policy becomes effective April 2. Please take this into account when requesting movies from other libraries.

“Year One” by Nora Roberts is a little different from her usual books, and several patrons have told us they enjoyed this story of a post-disaster world.

Another novel getting good buzz is “The Jane Austen Project” by Kathleen A. Flynn. Who wouldn’t like to go back in time and meet the talented Miss Austen?
