Kiwanis club plans Halloween party

DALLAS — Dallas Kiwanis Club will hold an indoor Halloween Parade and Party for children on Sunday, Oct. 29, at the Back Mountain Regional Fire & EMS Station 121 at 184 E. Center Hill Road.

Registration and entertainment by Charlie Hayes begins at 1 p.m. Individuals and groups will be judged at 2 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three winners in each costume category: Funniest, Most Original, Prettiest, Scariest, Best Group and Miscellaneous.

Light refreshments and goodie bags will be distributed following the judging.

Pumpkin decorating contest slated

DALLAS — The Dallas Township Bicentennial Celebration and Dallas Kiwanis Club will hold a Halloween Pumpkin Contest for children ages 4 through 12 on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at the Luzerne County Fairgrounds, Route 118.

Registration begins at 6 p.m. and pumpkins will be judged at 7 p.m. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Funniest, Most Original, Prettiest, Scariest, Ugliest, and Miscellaneous. Use your creative talents and carve or paint a pumpkin prior to the event. Completed pumpkins are to be brought during registration to the Kiwanis Booth at the Luzerne County Fairgrounds.

Kingston Township composting site hours

KINGSTON TWP. — Kingston Township composting site will have new hours for November.

From Nov. 1 – 30, the facility will be open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The composting site will be closed Thanksgiving Day and close for the season on Dec. 1.

LCCC holds college instant admission information event

NANTICOKE — Luzerne County Community College will hold an Early College Instant Admission and Information Event from 3:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the College’s Campus Center.

Those in attendance will have the opportunity to speak with representatives from the Early College Program and Admissions and Registrar’s Offices.

Tours of the campus will be conducted and placement testing will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring transcripts, grades, or evaluator forms. There will be no application fee and applicants will be automatically accepted.

Career paths discussion slated for Nov. 2

NANTICOKE — Luzerne County Community College Alumni Association will hold a panel discussion called “Alumni Career Paths to Success” at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, at the college’s Campus Center Rotunda.

Those in attendance will hear the success stories of LCCC graduates who will discuss how to transition to a four-year institution, how to find a job, how to plan for the future, and how their LCCC degree helped them to achieve success.

Roast beef supper slated for Nov. 4

DALLAS — The Lutheran Brotherhood of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 474 Yalick Road, will hold its last roast beef supper of the year on Saturday, Nov. 4. Served family style, the supper includes roast beef, mashed potatoes and homemade gravy, green beans, glazed carrots, fresh rolls and homemade desserts. Adults admission is $10. Children younger than 12 years of age will be admitted for $5. Dinner seating is slated from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Takeouts will begin at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the door.

The Wyoming Valley Civil War Round Table to meet Nov. 9

DALLAS — The Wyoming Valley Civil War Round Table will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9 in the lower level of the Daddow-Isaac Amercian Legion Post 672, 730 Memorial Hwy.

The program for the evening is titled “Pickett’s Charge – The High Water Mark Diorama” presented by Gary Tewksbury, a Tunkhannock resident and Civil War enthusiast. Tewksbury worked on the diorama over 15 years. The diorama includes 130 unique lead figures, handcrafted by Tewksbury, to depict a scene from the infamous advance made by the Confederate Army on the third and final day of the Battle of Gettysburg.
