KINGSTON TWP. — Fire hydrants will be flushed and tested in the Suez Water Company service area in Shavertown from 10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8 to about 6 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9.

The maintenance program is part of Suez’s distribution system maintenance.

Fire hydrants are flushed to remove harmless minerals that collect in water mains, according to a news release from Kingston Township administration. This process also involves the testing of fire hydrants to ensure that they are working properly.

Some Suez customers may experience low water pressure or discolored water during the maintenance process. This situation is temporary. Although the discoloration is not harmful, it may cause issues when washing clothes.

We recommend that customers run their cold water tap to clear any discoloration in their lines and wait until the water is clear before drinking or washing clothes or dishes.
