Arrive Alive Tour to visit Penn State Wilkes-Barre

LEHMAN TWP. — Penn State Wilkes-Barre will host UNITE’s Arrive Alive Tour, featuring a driving tech simulator, impact video and other resources to educate the public about distracted and intoxicated driving.

The event is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, 1269 Old Route 115.

Luzerne County Transportation Authority to offer ‘Luzerne County Fair Express Route’

WILKES-BARRE — Luzerne County Transportation Authority to offer a special bus route called ‘Luzerne County Fair Express Route,’ from Wednesday, Sept. 6 to 9.

The route will depart from the Wilkes-Barre Intermodal Center, with stops at Kingston Corners; Gerrity’s in Luzerne and the Dallas Shopping Center, before proceeding to the pick-up and drop-off point that is located at the main entrance of the fair in Lehman Township.

The first bus will depart from the Intermodal Center at 3:15 p.m. on Sept. 6 and will run an approximately 45 minute loop. The last bus will depart from the main gate 10:30 p.m. The schedule will repeat Sept. 7 and 8. On Sept. 9, the first bus will depart from the Intermodal Center at 10 a.m. and the final bus will depart from the fairgrounds at 10:30 p.m.

Roast beef supper scheduled for Sept. 16

DALLAS TWP. — The Lutheran Brotherhood of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 474 Yalick Road off Route 118 will hold its third roast beef supper of the year on Saturday, Sept. 16.

Dinner is served family-style and includes roast beef, mashed potatoes and home made gravy, green beans, glazed carrots, fresh rolls and home made desserts. Adult admission is $10. Children younger than 12 years old will be admitted for $5.

Dinner seating will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Dinner takeouts begin at 3:30. Tickets are available at the door.

Eat, Drink & Paint Benefit slated for Sept. 29

DALLAS TWP. — An Eat, Drink and Paint Benefit for the Kunkle Fire Company is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at the Kunkle Social Hall, 815 Kunkle Road. Cost is $45 per person and includes food, non-alcoholic beverages and all painting supplies. You must be 18 years old to attend. BYOB must be 21 years of age. Come and explore your creative side. Eighth annual Luzerne-Lackawanna Counties Mathematics Symposium slated

DALLAS TWP. – The Department of Mathematics at Misericordia University will host the eighth annual Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties Mathematics Symposium from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, in the Catherine Evans McGowan Room of the Mary Kintz Bevevino Library. The symposium is open, free to the public.

The symposium will feature scholars from local colleges and universities who will offer 20-minutes presentations on topics in both research and teaching. The presenters include Patrick Touhey, professor of mathematics; Triet M. Pham, assistant professor of mathematics and computer science, and Yuhan Ding, assistant professor of computer science, all of Misericordia University; Steven Dougherty, professor of mathematics and Leona Sparaco, assistant professor of mathematics, University of Scranton.

Lunch will be served at the conclusion of the presentations.
