PSUWB student Shania Shelton named Outstanding Adult Learner

LEHMAN TWP. — Shania Shelton, a Rehabilitation and Human Services student, has been honored by the Luzerne County Council on Adult Higher Education as the Penn State Wilkes-Barre 2018 Outstanding Adult Learner recipient.

Shelton was born and raised in Bear Creek. In addition to her studies at PSU Wilkes-Barre, she works as a beverage server at Mohegan Sun Pocono. She currently assists in a research study regarding positive psychology and alopecia, and works with fellow students in improving their research skills. Over the past two years, she has volunteered her time at Blue Chip Farm Animal Refuge, inspiring her to incorporate shelter doges into her future counseling career by having shelter dogs present during counseling sessions to provide comfort to clients.

Shelton was joined by her family and faculty/staff from Penn State Wilkes-Barre to accept her award during a dinner event at Misericordia University on March 20

The award is sponsored by the Luzerne County Council on Adult Higher Education. This council is a collaboration of local higher education institutions including Penn State Wilkes-Barre, Misericordia University, King’s College, Wilkes University and Luzerne County Community College.

Shelton will graduate in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Rehabilitation and Human Services.
