KINGSTON – Jill Stretanski, of Shavertown, global language faculty member and co-coordinator of the Advanced Placement (AP) program at Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School, received the prestigious Frances and Louis Maslow Upper School Award for excellence in teaching during the school’s 173rd commencement ceremony.

Stretanski received the honor in recognition of her effective teaching, support of the academic program and ideals of the school, and positive influence on the lives of the students, said Kevin Rea, Sem president.

Stretanski, who joined Sem in 1996, has served the school and its students as a member of the global language department, teaching Spanish, directing and managing the school’s AP program, serving as director of the school’s Honor Council, serving as a college counselor in the college guidance department, leading the boys and girls swim teams as head varsity coach for several years and serving for several years as dorm leader in Swetland Hall.

She also serves as an advisor to the Wyoming Seminary Cum Laude chapter, the academic honor society for independent schools, and has been inducted into the society.

She holds a bachelor of arts degree in romance languages from Washington and Lee University and a master of arts degree in Spanish from Middlebury College. She also holds Pennsylvania certification for kindergarten-12th grade Spanish.
