The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Luzerne, Lackawanna and Wyoming Counties, and a tornado warning for parts of Lackawanna County in effect until 10 p.m. tonight.

A tornado warning indicates a higher likelihood that tornados could strike than a warning.  The tornado warning zone extends from Northern Lackawanna County into Wayne County.

A cold front moving through Northeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New York this afternoon into this evening could bring heavy winds and brief heavy rainfall. Large hail, thunderstorms and tornadoes are also possible, according to the National Weather Service.

The Weather Service recommends those in the path of a tornado seek shelter in a basement or interior room and stay away from windows.
