There was a feeling of Christmas in the air in the Wilkes-Barre area on Friday. Residents throughout the city and residents of Daniel J. Flood Tower in Kingston were busy hanging garlands and stringing colorful lights on trees. Although cold and rainy outside, all was merry and bright under the dome of the Luzerne County Courthouse on Friday night, as county officials joined the public in celebrating the season at the annual Luzerne County Tree Lighting Ceremony. After a welcome from county council Chairman Tim McGinley and county manager Robert Lawson, the King's College Choir – Cantores Christi Regis – performed, and attorney Joseph F. Saporito Jr., president of the Luzerne County Bar Association, had the honor of flipping the switch to light the tree in the courthouse rotunda. The Shavertown United Methodist Church Praise Ringers also performed seasonal music.
