Lake-Lehman’s Josh Sayre pinned Eric Young of Dallas in the finale of an intense dual in front of a near-capacity crowd at Lake-Lehman, pushing the Black Knights to a 32-31 victory over their arch-rivals in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division II meet.

Sayre needed just five team points in the match and the Black Knights, having the most wins, would have won on tiebreaking criteria. A 15-point victory seemed a little far away as he held just a 50-2 lead when the referee slapped the mat.

With the win, the Black Knights had an opportunity to secure the division title and the conference’s No. 1 seed in the District 2 Class 2A Duals Tournament when they met Hanover area and Wyoming Area.

The loss dropped the Mountaineers (4-1) to a tie with Wyoming Area as the only teams with one loss in the Division II.
