DALLAS TWP. – A Dallas teen was killed in a one-vehicle crash Saturday morning.

Jason A. Schilling, 18, died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Carpenter Road, Hugh P. Boyle & Son Funeral Home of Kingston announced in a death notice.

Dallas Township Police Patrolman John Mendrygal said Schilling was heading from the direction of Harveys Lake toward Lake Street when he came up over a curvy hill just past the Dallas Township line and it looks like he was going a little too fast.

Mendrygal said Schilling failed to negotiate the curve and struck a tree head-on. He died at the scene.

Mendrygal said a passerby saw the car on the side of the lightly traveled road at about 6:30 a.m. and called 911. He did not know what time the crash occurred.

Schilling was a 2012 graduate of Dallas High School and had played on the school's baseball team for three years. He was a two-year starter, said Dallas baseball coach Ken Kashatus.

He was a gamer, he loved to compete. He was a well-liked kid in school in general. All the kids really liked him, Kashatus recalled.

Kashatus said Schilling is the latest loss to the Dallas High School class of 2012.

Corey A. Ehret, of Dallas, succumbed to a three-year battle with cancer at age 18 in July.

Thomas E. Lynch, of Harveys Lake, died as a result of injuries in a crash on Kunkle-Alderson Road in February at the age of 18.

I feel bad, of course, for his family and friends, and for his classmates because they have had to deal with a lot of loss, Kashatus said.

Kashatus said he received text messages about Schilling's death from other middle school teachers who remembered him and were showing genuine concern. Teachers are remembering him from four years back. He certainly left his mark.

Funeral arrangements are pending from the Hugh P. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, Kingston.
