KINGSTON – Hannah Bonk extended her quarterfinal so long in Oct. 12’s District 2 Class 2A girls tennis singles tournament that a new location had to be found to complete the match.

Bonk, of Dallas, rallied into a second-set lead before the match was interrupted and moved out of the growing darkness and Kirby Park and inside under the lights at the Wyoming Valley Indoor Courts.

Holy Redeemer’s Camryn Cassetori regrouped during the move and won four straight games for a 7-5, 6-3 victory.

Bonk reached the semifinals of the district doubles tournament Tuesday and Wednesday with Mikayla Reynolds after making it to the quarterfinals in singles.

Rain delayed the start of the singles tournament, helping lead to the last two matches of the day being moved because of darkness.

Bonk, the sixth seed, won her first two matches at Kirby Park. She beat MMI Prep’s Jackie Braunstein, 6-2, 6-2, and Riverside’s Trinity Gable, 6-0, 6-2.

Reynolds also played in the singles tournament, winning one match before being eliminated. She beat Hanover Area’s Kaitlyn Downey, 6-1, 6-1, then lost to Berwick’s Isabella Arndt, 6-4, 6-3.

Together Bonk and Reynolds won three matches Tuesday to make it to the final four, who settled the doubles title Wednesday.

Bonk-Reynolds defeated GAR’s Samantha Rodriguez-Michelle Tapia, 6-4, 7-5; Montrose’s McKala Newhart-Angie Ford, 6-0, 6-1; and Western Wayne’s Allison Mattern-Sam Atcavage, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Top-seed and eventual champions Gabriela Jakubek and Carly Habeeb from Scranton Prep defeated Bonk and Reynolds in Wednesday’s semifinals.

Reese Lewandowski and Sarah Stallard, the other Dallas entry, won one doubles match then lost their second.

Lewandowski-Stallard defeated Coughlin’s Rachel Bath-Chabee Patel, 6-4, 6-0, then lost to Valley View’s Kiana DeJesus-Faith Kendrick, 6-0, 6-3.
