Back Mountain extended its Youth American Legion Baseball season by splitting two games in last weekend’s Wyoming Valley League playoffs.

The four-team playoff was originally scheduled to determine one more regional qualifier from the Wyoming Valley, but when District 11 from the Scranton area was reduced from two to one playoff position, it opened another spot.

Back Mountain defeated Swoyersville, 2-1, while Stripes & Strikes from Hazleton was shutting out Mountain Top, 9-0, in the semifinals.

Stripes & Strikes defeated Back Mountain, 6-4, July 16.

Regular-season champion Greater Pittston had already earned the automatic berth from the league and a spot in the Berwick Regional for the playoffs, which were scheduled to open Saturday.

Stripes & Strikes is headed to the Shillington Regional while Back Mountain goes to the Boyertown Regional.
