Matt Blaum and Kaitlyn Metz earned all-star recognition while helping their teams to championships during the spring high school seasons.

Blaum and Metz were among the Back Mountain residents contributing to the success of private school athletic teams.

Holy Redeemer repeated as unbeaten Wyoming Valley Conference and District 2 Class 2A champions in boys volleyball with the help of Blaum, a Dallas resident who was a second-team Times Leader all-star selection.

Blaum ranked third on the state quarterfinalists in kills (142), blocks (38) and service aces (17).

Chet Brennan, also from Dallas, was a reserve on the championship team.

Wyoming Seminary’s girls lacrosse team also won both conference and district titles. It did so with four Back Mountain players in prominent roles.

Metz, from Shavertown, earned second-team all-star recognition from coaches for her contributions on defense.

Avery Conyngham and Olivia Meuser from Shavertown and Carly Clemente from Dallas also contributed to the titles.

Lukas Volpetti from Dallas earned a state fourth-place medal in the 3200-meter relay while running for Holy Redeemer.

Volpetti was third in District 2 Class 2A in the 1600-meter run in 4:35.96 and added a fifth-place finish in the 3200 run.

Chris Banas and Volpetti, both from Dallas, scored district points to help the Royals finish fifth.

Banas was eighth in the 400-meter run and 10th in the 200.

Carly Cavanaugh from Dallas was a freshman sprinter on Holy Redeemer’s girls team that was also fifth in District 2 Class 2A. She was part of the seventh-place 1600 relay team.
