Lake-Lehman girls defeat Dallas on volleyball court

Morgan Marchakitus had 14 kills and 4 digs Sept. 29 when Lake-Lehman defeated Dallas, 25-13, 25-20, 16-25, 25-9, in a Wyoming Valley Conference girls volleyball match.

The Black Knights had a 4-4 record as of Wednesday and were well-positioned to make the six-team District 2 Class 2A playoffs. At that point, Lake-Lehman was first among the six teams fighting for a wild-card berth after the top two Class 2A teams from the WVC and Lackawanna League were placed in the field.

Ashley Herceg and Devin Lindley also made significant contributions to the win over rival Dallas. Herceg had 10 aces, 13 assists and 4 kills. Lindley had seven digs, four kills and two aces.

Caitlyn Pike led Dallas with nine assists, three kills and two aces. Gianna Musto added seven digs, three kills and three aces. Shelby Carr had four kills and an ace.

At 3-8, Dallas ranked ninth of 11 teams trying for six spots in the District 2 Class 3A tournament.
