Tunkhannock did more than just end a 21-game football losing streak with a victory over Honesdale last season.
The Tigers followed it up with another win over Pittston Area.
The brief winning streak accounted for all the wins in a 2-8 season, but gives Tunkhannock something to try to build on as it enters the second year of Jan Cechak’s second stint as head coach at the school.
Logan Cywinski, last year’s leading rusher while playing quarterback, returns for his junior season and is likely to end up at tailback.
Leading receiver Brian Muckin is also back for the Tigers, who are most experienced at linebacker and in the secondary.
Tunkhannock opens at home Aug. 26 against Nanticoke.
The Tigers are a Class 4A team as part of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association’s new six-class system for football, but as part of its rebuilding process will continue to play against more schools with smaller enrollments than the rest of the Wyoming Valley Conference’s 4A teams.
