Tunkhannock defeated St. Marys, 8-3, July 31 in Wellsboro to claim the Pennsylvania 8-10-Year-Old Little League Softball championship.

The state title landed Tunkhannock a spot in the East Regional August 6-12 at the Back Mountain Little League. In the 10-and-under category, the regional is the highest title a team can win.

Tunkhannock earned its title shot by also beating St. Marys, 5-3, in the winners’ bracket final. As the last unbeaten in the tournament, it had two chances to beat St. Marys the second time to secure the state title.

Back Mountain suffered its second straight loss July 29 and finished tied for fifth in the state.

Indiana defeated Back Mountain, 4-1, in an elimination game at Wellsboro.
