WVC baseball: Dallas’ Eckert pitches no-hitter

Dallas baseball has had a stream of talented pitchers come through the program in recent years. On Wednesday, one of them made a little history.

Mountaineers junior Lee Eckert opened Wyoming Valley Conference play with a true gem, tossing a no-hitter in Dallas’ 7-0 win at Berwick. He struck out two and walked two in the effort.

The game had been scoreless as Bulldogs ace Jordan DiValerio kept the Mounts off the board until the top of the sixth when they broke through for six runs.

Charles Giacometti led Dallas at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI.

Northwest 7,

Wyoming Seminary 6

If a no-hitter weren’t enough for one day, an even rarer feat took place down in Shickshinny.

Wyoming Seminary turned a triple play in the bottom of the fifth inning when the Rangers popped up a bunt on a suicide squeeze play with runners at the corners.

That helped the Blue Knights take a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh before Northwest rallied for three runs to earn the walk-off win. The tying and winning runs scored on an error after a hard-hit ball by Brandon Reno.

Brandon Hardiman had three hits for the Rangers. Michael Oravic went 4-for-4 for Seminary.

Meyers 5, GAR 4

The host Mohawks scored four times in the first, but it would take 10 innings to push across the fifth and decisive run against rival GAR. Ismael Lake scored the winner on an error in the bottom of the 10th.

Geral Gomez went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Meyers. Noah Edwards and Jeremy Erhardt each drove in a run for the Grenadiers.

Hanover Area 7,

Nanticoke 1

Kevin Rimmer slammed two home runs and finished with four RBI to lift the Hawkeyes. Kyle Kowalski struck out four in sixth inning for the win while going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI at the plate.

Kris Rynkiewicz had two hits for the Trojans while Cody Piestrak had the lone RBI.

Wyoming Area 3,

Lake-Lehman 1

Steve Homza was 2-for-3 and Josh Kopcza doubled and picked up the complete-game win on the mound for the Warriors.

Tyler Kolb and Zach Brucher each recorded doubles for the Black Knights.

Coughlin 1, Crestwood 0

T.J. Wozniak scored Coughlin’s lone run in the fourth inning as the Crusaders slipped past Crestwood.

Chase Nowak pitched a four-hit shutout while striking out seven.

Holy Redeemer 7, MMI Prep 2

Jordan Choman and Cade Flanley each had two hits for the Royals while Tony Molitoris struck out five in four innings for the win.

Choman and Tucker Ell both doubled. Ibby Bains had an RBI for the Preppers.
