In a football game played at the Shavertown Elementary in 1974, the Shavertown Sharks beat the Trucksville Loafers, 27-0. The game was hosted and set up by the Westmoreland and Shavertown staffs of the Kingston Township Recreation Commission.

August 2004

The Back Mountain 11-year-old softball team claimed the Pennsylvania Championship with a 10-7 win over Mifflin County.

The winning pitcher was Sarah Konopki, who scattered five hits, struck out six and allowed three earned runs. Sara Skammer led Back Mountain with two hits and Alexa Decker scored four runs.

Back Mountain got to the state tournament by winning the Section 4 championship.

August 1994

The Gate of Heaven fifth-grade girls basketball team was the champion of the Back Mountain Girls Basketball Tournament.

Members of the team were Shannon Lupien, Chelsey Ostrowsky, Beth Charnick, Katie Guntli, Jocelyn Kozick, Samantha Leandri, Jamie Pikul, Nicole Sabatura, Lisa Gongleski, Jaclyn Reissner, Laura Charnick, Shannon Leary, Alison Hutch, Kristen Nelson and Jessica Holton.

The team was coached by Ed Ostrowsky and Joe Leary. The team also received the Good Sportsmanship Award for the regular season.

August 1984

The Back Mountain Women’s Softball League chose its All-Star team for the 1984 season.

Named to the team were Judy Lemmond, Nancy Shaw, Cathy Pope, Sue Brown, Cindy Cave, Cindy Lefko, Jody Crispell, Betty Newell, Sandy Shone, Jill Radzinski, Kenneath Barnes, Mary Gushonas, Alice Case, Becky Faux, Lynn Brown and Sue Stockage.

George Miller of Miller’s Economy was selected as coach. Miller was assisted by Ed Lyons and Gladys Crispell.

August 1974

In a football game played at the Shavertown Elementary, the Shavertown Sharks beat the Trucksville Loafers, 27-0, in a special game hosted by the Westmoreland and Shavertown staffs of the Kingston Township Recreation Commission.

Chris Williams and Laurie Sorber manned the refreshment stand, which offered Kool-Aid and popcorn for five cents. The proceeds of the game and stand went for a picnic at Francis Slocum State Park. Jim Thomas coached the Sharks, while Rus Johnson coached the Loafers.
