HARRISBURG — Rep. Karen Boback (R-Lackawanna/Luzerne/Wyoming) has announced her outreach hours for January when representatives from several different organization will offer assistance at her district offices throughout the month.

The Mobile Vet Center will be in the Ace Hardware-Brady and Cavany Store parking lot in Eaton Township from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9. Some of the services available for veterans and their dependents include individual, group, family and bereavement counseling; medical referrals; assistance in applying for Veterans Affairs benefits; employment counseling; guidance and referrals; and alcohol and drug assessments.

Boback and Lackawanna County District Attorney Shane Scanlon will hold “Lock ‘Em Up Day in Lackawanna County PA” at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11 at the Lackawanna County Courthouse. This event is intended to educate the public about medication diversion and the importance of properly securing prescription drugs. The College of Health Sciences of Misericordia University will hold a special presentation addressing opioid abuse in Pennsylvania, featuring Dr. Karen Murphy, secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Health, frp, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13. This discussion will take place in the Dudrick classroom, Room 216 in Insalaco Hall. All those sharing a concern for the individuals, families and communities devastated by opioids and a commitment to addressing this epidemic are encouraged to attend. A casework for U.S. Congressman Lou Barletta (R-Hazleton) will be at the Tunkhannock district office from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 16. Assistance will be available for constituents who are having problems with federal agencies and programs, and constituents are encouraged to bring documents they have received from federal agencies related to their issues.

A representative from the University of Scranton Small Business Development Center will be at the Tunkhannock district office from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Jan. 17. The University of Scranton Small Business Development Center provides educational programs and no-cost, confidential consulting services to entrepreneurs looking to start or grow a small business.

Veterans outreach hours will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17 at the Dallas district office, located at 1108 Twin Stacks Drive. A claims consultant from the Wilkes-Barre Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will be on hand to address questions and concerns of local veterans and their families.

An outreach specialist from the Center for Independent Living will be at the Tunkhannock district office from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Jan. 17. These hours are offered by appointment only. To make an appointment, call Boback’s Tunkhannock office at 570-836-4777.

Luzerne County Sheriff Brian Szumski and Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis will join Boback for “Lock ‘Em Up Day in Luzerne County PA” at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27 in the Luzerne County Courthouse rotunda to share information with area residents about medication diversion.
