DALLAS TWP. – Leamor Kahanov, Ed.D., A.T.C., L.A.T., dean of the College of Health Sciences and Education at Misericordia University, recently collaborated with a former faculty colleague and student researchers in the occupational therapy program to publish the scholarly article, “Pennsylvania Occupational Therapy Fieldwork Educator Practices and Preferences in Clinical Education,’’ in The Open Journal of Occupational Therapy.

Student researchers Kaitlyn Ryan, Ellington, Conn.; Melanie Beck, Whitehall; Lee Ungaretta, Dublin; Magdalena Rooney, Phoenixville, and Elaina Dalomba, Ph.D., O.T.R.-L, M.S.W., assistant professor of occupational therapy, collaborated with Dr. Kahanov on the scholarly article.

The Misericordia researchers conducted an investigation into occupational therapy fieldwork educator practices and the preferences in clinical education to understand better the interplay between students and supervisors. Their work identified the transition of information from the classroom to the field is beneficial and perceived as vital for the profession. It also showed that teaching inter-professional practice during fieldwork is an area of challenge still that needs better coordination.

Dr. Kahanov is a certified athletic trainer with a doctorate in education from the University of San Francisco, San Francisco, Calif. She earned a master’s degree in exercise and sports sciences from the University of Arizona, Tucson, Ariz., and a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science and athletic training from Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind.
