Jake Toczko edged Chris Wadas by two-hundredths of a second to win the Jack Daniels Mile Aug. 3 in Tunkhannock.

Toczko, a 19-year-old from Tunkhannock, passed the Misericordia University Hall of Famer with less than 200 meters remaining, then held off a late rally by Wadas. The sophomore at Appalachian State won in 4:40.68.

Carson Ayers, 21, of Tunkhannock, was third.

Marina Orrson won the women’s title for the third time in four tries with a time of 5:08.26.

PAULY FRIEDMAN 5K

April Fronzoni-Bertin won the women’s and overall titles Aug. 6 in the ninth annual Pauly Friedman Family 5K Run at Misericordia University.

Fronzoni-Bertin, 35, is a former USA field hockey national team member from Larksville. The Wyoming Valley West graduate and NCAA national champion at the University of Michigan now lives in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Mike Hiscox from Dallas was fifth overall in 21:04 and won the male 30-39 division.

Other age-group winners included: female masters, Heather Dewees, Dallas; female 20-29, Marion Palissey, Dallas; male 15-and-under, Bo Voelker, Harveys Lake.

The event drew a total of 225 runners and walkers.
