DALLAS TWP. – Hallie Jenkins scored all four of her goals during a streak of 11 straight by Lake-Lehman in the first half Tuesday on the way to a 14-5 victory over host Dallas in the Old Stick Game between the Back Mountain girls lacrosse rivals.

Dallas scored the first goal in the Wyoming Valley Conference game, but Lake-Lehman answered by scoring on its first six shots to take command before the midway point in the first half.

“It was kind of a wake-up call,” Jenkins said. “As soon as they scored, we knew we had to play tough and that it was going to be a tough game.”

Dallas started strong in the second half, too, scoring the first three goals in less than six minutes.

By then, however, the Black Knights had used a precision attack to open an 11-1 halftime lead.

Lake-Lehman took 15 shots in the first half, 11 of which produced goals, two that were saved by Dallas goalie Darian Guidry and two more that just missed, clanging off posts.

The impressive results were as much a reflection on the passing game that continually got the Black Knights into close range as they were of precision shooting.

“We always settle down and look for the best option,” said Jenkins, a junior. “We played well.”

That is something Lake-Lehman has done often this season, setting up Monday’s game against Wyoming Seminary as a meeting of the final two unbeatens in the WVC. The teams won the two division titles the past two years before the conference combined everyone into one league this season.

“They’ve been playing this way all season long,” Black Knights coach Ron Strohl said. “The thing we talked about before the season is to work together as a team. We can’t be a one-sided person or something outside of the group. It’s got to be done together as a team.”

The passing on offense is a sign of that.

“We’ve worked on several things the last few weeks,” Strohl said. “We’ve realized that when we work the ball, we can do well as a team.”

The Black Knights were not afraid to hold on to the ball until the opening they needed developed.

“We try to make the goalie move to get open shots,” Jenkins said.

Several Black Knights hit those shots.

Alicia Galasso had three goals. Katie Strohl had two goals and three assists while Kate Roberts and Jessica Evans each had two goals and an assist. Taylor Alba also scored and Alexis Barker had an assist.

Samantha Delamater scored three second-half goals for Dallas. Lauren Delamater and Grace Young also scored. Maria Bednar and Melinda Ratchford had assists.
