Sunshine and clear skies should return as the week comes to a close, but the Wyoming Valley could see some severe weather today.

According to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service, showers and a few thunderstorms are expected to develop across the region today. The strongest of those storms could contain damaging wind gusts and hail.

No watches or warnings have been issued for Luzerne County.

The National Weather Service indicated that it was 62 degrees as of 6:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, with mostly cloudy skies reported.

Partly sunny skies are expected today, along with a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Some storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected, and the high will be near 78.

Tonight will bring mostly cloudy skies, along with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected, and the low will be around 53.

Mostly cloudy skies are predicted for Wednesday, along with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected, and the high will be near 63.

Partly cloudy skies are expected into Wednesday night, with a low around 47.

Mostly sunny skies will return on Thursday, with a high near 69. Partly cloudy skies will follow into Thursday night, with a low around 48.
