ROSS TWP. — A brush fire in Ross Township engaged a nearby structure on Thursday.

Stan Davis, Sweet Valley Deputy Fire Chief, said the fire, called in at about 1 p.m., involved a cottage near Post Office Road.

As of 1:45 p.m. Davis said fire personnel were continuing to apply water to hot spots in the structure, but that he was confident that the fire would be contained.

Fire departments from Sweet Valley, Fairmont Township and Hunlock Creek, as well as Back Mountain Regional were on scene.

Davis said an ambulance was on standby, but there were no injuries.

On site also was Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Forestry.

Davis said that because of a lack of snow this winter, brush was especially dry, and fires could be anticipated. He advised against non-essential burning of rubbish and similar intentionally set fires.

“It’s too dry to burn anything,” he said.
