WILKES-BARRE — Heavy rain, thunder and lighting has battered the Wyoming Valley for most of the evening.

According to a special weather statement issued by the National Weather Service, a line of heavy rain and thunderstorms crossed through the region shortly before 8 p.m.

PPL is reporting numerous power outages throughout the Wyoming Valley.

According to PPL’s outage map, over 1,000 customers in Wilkes-Barre Township are reporting power outages, along with 350 in Pittston.

Showers and a possible thunderstorm are expected before 1 a.m. tonight, followed by showers into the overnight hours. Some storms could be severe and produce damaging winds. Up to an inch of rain is possible tonight, and the low will be around 43.

No watches or warnings have been issued for Luzerne or Lackawanna counties.
