The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation lowered the speed limit to 45 miles-per-hour on Interstates 80, 81, 84 and 380 in Luzerne and Lackawanna counties Saturday.

Winter Storm Jonas is blanketing Luzerne and Lackawanna counties making roads slippery. PennDOT crews have been out trying to keep roads passable since early Saturday morning.

PennDOT has issued a speed limit reduction for area interstates to help keep motorist safe.

Motorists are advised to stay off the roads, but can check conditions on “more than 40,000 miles, including a color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles of road, by visiting,” according to a written news release.
