Can you believe that 14,244 children and adults benefited from classes and events last year at the Dietrich Theater? So many classes and events are free – concerts, River Day, movies, preschool classes and more. The Dietrich is able to provide many free and low-cost programs because we apply for grants, seek sponsors and run fundraising events.

One critical and necessary sponsor is the Dietrich Theater Membership.

Membership? What’s that all about? When you become a member, you benefit by receiving a gift of free movie tickets or Gala Night tickets, but the main benefit is knowing you are enabling the Dietrich Theater to host free events, to offer free or low-cost classes, to bring in the best foreign and independent films and to keep its aging historic building up-to-date.

Members know they are supporting something good for the community, something they believe in. The arts are the heart and soul of a community. The arts allow us to experience creativity, examine all kinds of issues, experience diversity and new worlds. Dietrich membership is all about supporting the arts.

The Dietrich Theater is in the middle of a Membership Campaign and invites you to become a member or give a membership to someone. What a great holiday gift. There are many levels, from $35 and up. To become a member, call the Dietrich at 570-996-1507 or stop by. If you do, you just might feel a little taller, with a little more spring in your step.

There are three free events coming up, made possible by sponsors, so mark your calendars.

The Golden Days of Radio Players Performance of two old-time Christmas radio plays from the 1930s and 1940s will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5. This is a free performance with a free reception following, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Tunkhannock.

The favorite holiday movie “Home Alone” will be shown at 1 and 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6. It is free as well and is sponsored by Nimble Hill Vineyard and Brewery.

Free showings of “It’s a Wonderful Life,” with free popcorn, soda and cookies, sponsored by Ace-Robbins, Inc., will be presented at 2 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12. This is an event so special for so many.

We sure hope you will be at one or more of these special programs. And while you are here, consider becoming a member of the Dietrich membership family. We would be so proud to have you join us.

This is the season to make sure you get to the Dietrich. Whether it is night or day, the décor and lights will inspire awe and make your day a little brighter.

We sure do hope we will see you soon and often.
